Sorry the post is long, I had to update it to include some addressed concerns regarding the subject matter.
Alrighty, so after a few hiccups getting this all approved with forum admins (meaning posting it to News & Announcements) and my computer glitching out, I’m happy to announce the LMMS Artist Hub soundcloud account.
The artist hub will act in place of the now-defunct LMMS group page as the forum where LMMS artists can share and repost their works for the community to hear. I will be voluntarily running the page until further notice.
For now, this is the format I’ve decided on in regards to having your songs uploaded. You must:
1. Follow the Artist Hub Account.
2. Join the forums (which most of you reading this have already done).
3. Message the link to the song.
To message the link of the song, you may either post your link directly to this thread, DM the soundcloud profile or email lmms.artisthub@gmail.com..
Some of the plans I have for the hub is to create separate playlists to separate all the songs into genre showcases. That way if you want to get inspiration or listen to songs of a certain genre, you can just pull up that genre’s playlist and hear what artists have done in that style. While this is not official, I hope that this account can also serve as a potential platform to host the Best of Vol. 4 competition on.
In the future I might also create a Facebook page where we can host AMA (Ask Me Anything) threads, remix opportunities, artist spotlights and more.
Now down to a couple concerns that I’ve been messaged regarding this page.
Firstly was concerning whether or not this page is "official" andthe answer is no. Personally, I would not call this the truly official platform to represent the LMMS community—for now this is still an unofficial forum to repost music. I would not call it fully official unless all the admins gave the general consensus that they wanted to make it official OR if the moderators decided to use it as the host location for the Best of Vol. 4 competition/compilation.
Another concern was about whether or not I’m using this to serve personal interests. The answer to that is a resounding no—I created this account not with the intent to further my own personal interests or account. I created the account simply because I wanted to help resolve the problem following soundcloud disbanding groups, and this is how I thought I could best help.
Additionally, there was the concern of how often the page would be updated. I will do my best to repost songs to the Artist Hub as soon as I receive a notification that indicates someone wants their song posted. With the playlists, I hope to update those on a weekly (maybe bi-weekly) basis. Also, let me make mention that for now, I will only repost up to five (5) songs uploaded to soundcloud prior to August 1st, 2016. This is to reduce the amount of time reposting all the songs. The only exceptions to this will be songs featured in the first three Best of Vol. 3 compilations. I’ll be working to find the links to all of those songs and will add them as soon as I finish finding all of them.
Lastly, there was the concern of whether or not I would forfeit control of the account to forum administrators if it was asked of me. The answer is yes—like I said, I created the account to fill the void left by soundcloud deleting groups. I intended it to be a tool for the LMMS community to use together, I’m simply volunteering to moderate and run the profile until further notice.
Now lets make some music.
