Hi folks,

I cannot find the VeSTige instrument on the instrument plugins list. I am running LMMS version 1.1.3 on Lubuntu 16.04

Any idea why this could be happening?

Thanks

The package you used to install LMMS is broken or missing stuff.

What you could try is to install LMMS from this site:

I am also having the same problem in my Antergos (arch based) system.

According to https://lmms.io/download/#linux, support for VST on Linux-based systems is not out of the box.

I am trying to get it to work. Any Linux wizards out there?

I am not a wizard, but have LMMS running on openSUSE leap.

Have you guys installed wine ?

But if vestige is missing, from the instruments panel, there is a prob with the package.

Did you use this ?

I also tried LMMS with openSuse tumbleweed with Wine installed and Vestige wasn't there either. I used the command sudo zypper install lmms as indicated in https://lmms.io/download/#linux.

I can only find it on Windows. It is bizarre that the pachages are all broken for Arch, Ubuntu and OpenSuse... could this even be the case?

Did you find Vestige on openSuse Leap when you first installed LMMS? Which version of openSuse Leap are you using?

Code: Select all

guus@linux-0pkp:~> lsb_release -a
LSB Version: core-5.0-amd64:core-5.0-noarch:desktop-5.0-amd64:desktop-5.0-noarch:imaging-5.0-amd64:imaging-5.0-noarch:languages-5.0-amd64:languages-5.0-noarch
Distributor ID: SUSE LINUX
Description: openSUSE Leap 42.1 (x86_64)
Release: 42.1
Codename: n/a
If you're on openSUSE you should use yast to install software.
( zypper should work too but its more complicated )

Just type lmms and wine in the search box. You will have to add the pacman repository first though.

https://en.opensuse.org/Additional_pack ... es#Packman

If youre on opensuse you definitely want to add pacman. You can find audacity there too and lots of other multimedia, which because of license issues, are not included by the default install.

Thumbleweed is the rolling release verison of openSUSE, Leap is the more stable one.

http://www.zdnet.com/article/side-by-si ... -and-leap/
Looking at it a different way, I think of Tumbleweed as being a development distribution, so I expect it to get the latest version of all its major packages very quickly, but I am not surprised when there is some minor instability. I consider Leap to be a stable distribution, so some of the major/critical packages only get updates when a new point release is made, and I expect it to be very dependable.

Hi Gps,

I have installed the current version openSuse Leap 42.2 (x86_64) and used Yast2 to install Wine and then LMMS. When I run LMMS I find no signs of Vestige in the Instruments panel. Do you think this be a problem with Wine?

I've built LMMS version 1.2.0-rc2 from source code on my Antergos box (instructions on https://github.com/LMMS/lmms/wiki/Compiling-lmms). Vestige is still not there.

This is definately a problem on LMMS for Linux based systems, since on Windows Vestige is there. Don't know about Mac.

On the positive side of things, I found the new user interface theme of 1.2.0 very cool!

I am on openSUSE 42.1, and I am confused. How can you not have Vestige. :o

Do you have LMMS version 1.1.3 ( like in the screenshot in my next post ?)

Did you add the Packman repository ?

https://en.opensuse.org/Additional_package_repositories

In this screen in yast, after after you searched for lmms, on the versions tab, you can see if you have lmms from packman or from opensuse.

If you have it from packman I would email them.

http://wiki.links2linux.de/packman:faq_en

What if I have troubles with a package?
Simply send an E-Mail with the exact error description to the Packman mailing list: packman <at> links2linux.de. If you do not know exactly which information about your system is needed? Point out at least your SUSE version and the package name and the version.

( You will need to change the <at> in @ and tell them you're on leap 42.2 )
