[SOLVED] wav voice file sounds very down-tempo in song edtr?

Anything that doesn't fit into other topics goes here!
New to LMMS and trying to wrap my head around it.

I'm trying to play various samples inside of LMMS. I have a short little .wav file of a guy talking (about 22 seconds) available here (Dropbox link, no login needed to download it):

https://www.dropbox.com/s/nj192or4cyib7 ... S.wav?dl=0

From inside LMMS, I do the following:
- I navigate to this file
- right click on it, and choose "Open in new instrument-track/Song-Editor"
- click on one of the "bars" (not sure what they're called but they're laid out in fours, dark black and then grey)
- draw a line in the Piano Roll

At this point, when I play the track, it plays at an extremely low tempo.

Why? It doesn't sound natural at all. And speeding up the tempo doesn't seem to normalize the guy's speech (the guy in the recording, i.e.).

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks!
If you want it to play at standard pitch/tempo you can't just put any old note in Piano roll. It has to be the exact note that has the little green square above it on the keyboard at the bottom of the Audio File Processor window. I guess you're using a much lower note so it's playing slower...that's how AFP is supposed to work. So just move your Piano Roll "line" up to the right note and it should be o.k.

Alternatively you could play it using Sample Track instead, which is probably better if you just want a wav file played without the ability to change pitch/speed etc. Just click on the first black block and expand it to 22 seconds then double click and it will ask you to load the file. I tried the "Sample Track" method. Happy to say that your instructions were clear enough that I was able to import the track. However, it still plays at an extremely slow speed, and at a very low (bass) voice. If you have the time and inclination, please give it a try with the sample I posted. Perhaps there's something wrong with my sample.
I did try it. For me it sounds perfectly normal in both AFP and Sample Track and also in Windows Media Player. That's on LMMS v1.1.3 on Windows 7 or 10.

Can you try it in a different program, WMP or perhaps Audacity ? Do the basic LMMS samples (in My Samples) play normally? Try something like latin_guitar01.ogg.

BTW what operating system and LMMS version are you using ? Seems like there's something very odd going on.

Thank you, highly appreciate the responses. Good to know it's working *somewhere*.

I'm guessing that I may not have attached the proper sound driver / sound card etc. to LMMS. I'm going to look into playing with that. Will report back if / when something positive occurs.

Am using LMMS v1.1.3 32-bit on Windows 7 64-bit (I was originally using LMMS v1.1.3 64-bit but that was giving the same problem so I removed and replaced with 32-bit).

It works it works it works it works!!!

I had to change the sound settings as follows:

Edit > Settings > Sound > Audio Interface: PortAudio .... I had to change "Settings for PortAudio" from "Windows DirectSound" to "Windows WASAPI" (and "Speakers/Headphone" for the other option)

Thanks for offering me support and encouragement along the way!!!

Enjoyed your Rookie Guide very much. Got the basics from one 33 minute video. Thanks!
That's a strange problem you had there. Glad you fixed it but I'd still like to know what OS and LMMS version you're using. On my Windows machines I can't set PortAudio if I try. The usual preferred Windows setting of SDL is the only that it will take.
