Salsa time!

Share and discuss your LMMS music projects here, and see what people think!
Hey again,

I just got a sound cloud account and I thought I'd share a little WIP I cooked up this evening. It's a bit different from some of the others I've heard on this page, but thought some of you may enjoy it anyway. It's a spicy salsa beat with all the instruments (special thanks to those of you who answered my "dumb" questions, LOL). And as with anyone who posts a WIP on here, any questions or suggestions are welcome. So here goes:

I've been really enjoying arranging salsa, merengue & reggaeton with LMMS; with the right plug-ins it's like having whoever arranges for Manny Montes or el Gran Combo de Puerto Rico working with you. :D So I'd also like to use this post as a chance for you guys to share your Latin WIPs too.
This song makes me hungry. What I wouldn't give for some real Mexican food right now...

Haha sorry... It is a fun song. I like it, especially when all of those instruments start going in the second half. :)

Don't really have any suggestions atm, but if I think of anything that might help, I will let you know.

You think you're the only one who's hungry?
Nice song by the way mfox32322. :D

Now I need tacos, tacos tacos and plenty tacos!!
Anybody sponsoring?
I have twenty dollars and fifty cents, so... yeah, how does fast food sound to you? :P

(sorry for going off topic mfox32322)
Fast food sounds great. Twenty dollars and fifty cents is more than enough.
Problem is......................."I'm Vegetarian"
And there's no way, I could stick my hands though my PC screen, or teleport myself to get my food.
Well for what it's worth you guys are not alone! For me, the food that comes to mind with music like this is a *real* Cuban sandwich, south FL style. I live in an area where Mexican is easy to come by (and I like a good taco as much as the next guy), but I miss the kind of stuff I used to enjoy back home (that being Cuban and Puerto Rican food, LOL).

But getting back to the song, I think I've already got some ideas on how to improve it; the fact that it made you guys hungry tells me I'm on the right track. :) I'm thinking if I can add another chord (it really just alternates between E minor and D back and forth, so maybe add an A or something) and maybe vary the brass section a bit, it will be something I can turn into a full song (with lyrics and all).

Any other thoughts (about the song, tacos, Cuban sandwiches or whatever)? :)

How about making a song called "Sexy Taco girl!" :D
A song about a "Young Sexy Mexican Taco Girl waitress," who is a roller skater waitress, for a fast food, out door Taco restaurant chain. And A Young Mexican boy around the same age, who visits the Taco outdoor restaurant, just to see her and is in love with her. And she likes him too. He! He! ;)

This'll be an interesting Love song. Enjoy! :D
Awww, that sounds cute. :D Maybe you should mess around w/some Latin stuff too and see what you can "cook up". I'd definitely like to hear it (LOL does anyone else even do Latin music on LMMS? I don't know).

But anyway, I found something kind of cool tonight; I've been creating my own loops using LMMS (congas, timbales etc) and also found a way to sample sounds recorded using a VSTI (which means I can use more without risking a total computer freeze, LOL). I already have a couple new tunes I'm working on & hope to post them here soon. :)

Hasta luego,
Miguel :)

Glad you thought so. I LUV my Sexy Taco girl idea. And it really does sound cute. He! He! :D

Hmmm.....I'm not really into Latin American music, but I'll try something. He! He! Hope it comes out great though.

Really? What's the name of this Vsti? :o
Mostly DSK brass. See, most big salsa bands have at least 3 trumpets and 2 trombones; and most merengue bands will have at least 2 trumpets and 2 saxophones (alto and soprano). The DSK brass plug-in allows you to get a very similar effect, because you can have it play 2 instruments at the same time, so I've found this to be a huge help. But the trouble is, too many VSTI's and my LMMS goes into freezeup lockdown. :P And if it's got that Latin beat going on it's going to have at least a bass and piano/guitar in addition to the horns.

So what I did to get around this problem was like this:
1 - I loaded the VST I wanted to use and set it how I wanted.
2 - I went into the piano roll and played a very long "A" note (a whole bar)
3 - I exporeted it as a WAV file in the same folder where I keep my other sounds.

So for the brass section, I've found that this works perfectly. It works just as if I was using the plug-in but without risking the freeze. The down-side is if I want to add an effect I would have to record it as a separate sound. But it's getting the job done.
