Novation Impulse 25 to LMMS

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.
Hello, a few days ago I just got a Novation impulse midi keyboard ( http://global.novationmusic.com/midi-co ... rs/impulse ) and a friend gave me his version of Ableton 7! oh how exited I was to try and set that up and start learning how to use ableton with my new keyboard... Then it said incompatible and I needed Ableton 8.3.4... So trying to avoid spending 450 dollars on a whore of a program I tried to set it up for LMMS, but no luck so far... So can any one give me a tutorial on how to set this thing up for LMMS or perhaps tell me another software that could utilize its capability's so that I may work instead of having a 25 keyed paper weight? All jokes aside I really need help here, I know I could start making tracks at any time but if I don't find a way to use this midi keyboard I simply feel like I just wasted the money... Thank you.
Right click on the midi tab for an instrument. Should be a dropdown. Try that. Likely you'll see something like "USB Midi Controller blah blah..." ;)

I think I'm describing it right. It's almost stupidly simple, which is a good thing.

Or better yet, go here: http://lmms.sourceforge.net/wiki/index. ... Using_MIDI

Some buttons/dials/etc, can also be setup as a controllers for things in the software. Assign the controller by right clicking on the thing you want controlled, pick the assign midi option, and then moving the wheel or pressing button you want to control it. Keep in mind you may need to have specific drivers for the midi device installed for some of these to work. (Also for buttons it's likely you'll need the hardware driver software if you want to change buttons from press to toggle behavior.)

Recording from the piano keyboard works great, but unfortunately automations don't record yet. (Linking those things to knobs and buttons on the keyboard can still be handy for live playing, but LMMS isn't quite geared to that either.) Hopefully they'll get around to it sometime, so things like key velocity or neat things manually being done with FX or other setting changes can be saved to a track.
