When I look at the LADSPA Plugin Browser in LMMS I see lots of instruments, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to actually use them in any way. What am I missing?

Some eg. on how to use 'em. :D

Limiters eg. "Tap scaling Limiter or Calf Scaling Limiter": Is used, in most cases to prevent your song from "clipping."
Clipping: Is kinda like when you make a song, the "red zone" in the meter. Green is good. Red is very bad.
Or it prevents certain frequencies, in your music, or instrument "eg. Loud Drum or Super Saws etc." from causing Clipping. Or exceeding the boundaries, that makes your music sound, noisy/Crackly/distorted, etc. and gives the listener a headache.
There are much more explanations. So check the Lmms Wiki. Taa Daa! :D

Reverb eg. Calf Reverb: "Is one of your best friends." It makes your instruments, samples or sounds, sound nice. :D Or "fuller." Well....most of the time.
In other words it makes your instruments, samples or sounds, sound more "fuller." Well I hope you get what I mean.
Used together with Chorus Flanger. You'll get unique sounds. You don't have to use Chorus Flanger or Calf Reverb if you don't want too. It's up to you.

Equaliser thingys eg. The Tap Equaliser thingy :D : Is used, in most cases, to raise or lower certain frequencies, of your songs, instruments and music.
People use it alot, when making Super Saws. But not in all cases.

Echoes eg. Tap Stereo Echo: Well......................thats explanitory. It makes echoes.

Vst's or Vsti's? Well Vst's are another story. Check musikbears link. ;)

Well you don't have to use them the way I explained, so it's up to you and your own preferences.

Whew! That was a lot to write. Hope you learned somethings. I'm hungry! Time to EAT dinner!! YAY!! :D

Thanks for the replies, but I'm not talking about VST plugins, nor am I talking about LADSPA Effects. I'm talking about LADSPA Instruments. In LMMS, if you click Tools > LADSPA Plugin Browser, there are 5 buttons on the left. The top is Available Effects, which I use. The middle button (keyboard) says "Instruments". It shows things like "C* CEO - Chief Executive Oscillator", "C* Lorenz - The sound of a Lorenz attractor", "Organ", and "Phase Modulated Voice". These are what I'm asking about -- I can't figure out how to use this in any way.

Thanks again!

I'm talking about LADSPA Instruments.
Oh my goodness. So sorry about that. I now realise what you're saying. "LADSPA Instruments." I think I'll check them out, and post a reply to your question, as soon as I find out anything.
Sorry. ;)

Old topic but somewhat of a mystery and I want to know this too. I don't think they're really implemented yet.

Here's a topic in the main-archive touch upon the subject:

Sorry to bring this old topic back, but I'm curious about this too. Are LADSPA instruments useable in the lmms GUI, or just the LADSPA effects? I ran across an old email, linked above from the old mailing list, that mentioned the instruments were GUI-less and could (maybe) only be used, or triggered from MIDI. Is this still the case, or was it ever the case before?

I'm trying to understand if I'm missing some step in getting them into the DAW properly. Can anyone shed some light? Thanks!

afaik you cant use them. I know that the huge collection of ladspa shown in the sc 'ladspa-browser' are unavailble, and also unsuported.

That explains why I failed last nite, when I tried to use them, because of this topic, but that brings up the question, why is that browser there , in the first place?
