Using an Akai LPD8

Does anybody know how to map the pads on an LPD8 in lmms? Specifically, I would like to be able to map the drum pads to the notes on a drum kit so each pad could play a separate drum sound in a Beat+Bassline Editor. It would also be good to be able to mute/unmute an FX Channel so it would kind of sound like you are playing samples.

Mapping the control knobs is easy as the program picks those up right away.

I've got one of these but haven't used it in a while, as I recall the way I did this was to use a drum pad/kit/machine vst and load the 8 samples I wanted into the vst. What this does is map each drum sample to a note, this is helpful because lmms recognizes the pads of the lpd8 as notes on a keyboard so when you connect the lpd8 to the vst pressing the pads plays a note which just so happens to be your drum sample. The only other thing that may cause a problem is the fact that the 8 notes the lpd8 pads correspond to may not be the same notes the vst samples are linked to, but I believe this can be fixed simply by changing the key the vst is in, just slide that little green thing on the keyboard of the vst to the keys the pads trigger.
