VSTs won't work...

I've been using LMMS 1.0.3 for about two years now, and that entire time I've had to stick with the instrument plugins that come with LMMS. I've done a lot of research on this, but nothing seemed to help. I am using Debian.

Symptoms:
- Whenever I attempt to load a VST, it says "The VST-plugin whatever.dll could not be loaded for some reason. If it runs with other VST-software under Linux, please contact an LMMS-developer!"
- It does not work for any VSTs, including Synth1.

Restrictions:
- My computer is on the top floor, meaning no network. This means I have to manually build anything I want to install.

I have tried many versions of wine, but I can't remember which ones I've tried, so act like I haven't tried anything. I've done dozens of hours worth of research, but I kind of gave up about a year ago. Hopefully somebody can find the solution!

Sorry for the lack of info, but I can't remember what I've tried so far, since it was so long ago. :/

have you read this:

Not being online, is ofcause a snag in respect to upgraders, but i suppose linux can do that too..

The KXStudio "lmms-vst-full - Linux Multimedia Studio - full VST support Using Wine"

would be a good one to try, i think

@musikbear: Yes, I viewed that website. Without network, I cannot use wget to get some of those materials, and apt-get can't get packages from the internet. I have to manually build and install anything I get. Exactly what version of Wine should I get? Should I get version 4 or version 5? Should I get 32 or 64 bit (my system is 64 bit)? I'll need to know exactly what version I need so that I know that I'm installing it wrong, not just using the wrong version. Also, some help with how I need to install it would be helpful. I apologize that this is a very personal & specific question, but I really want to use VSTs.

I have been thinking about this, and I do not know how to help you.

We need somebody from debian ideally one who knows lmms.

I can tell you what version of wine I am using but I am on opensuse leap.
Opensuse is not debian based.

Installed Version Wine
1.8.6-15.1

The 15.1 one part is prob for opensuse and has nothing to do with wine.

No, so gps are correct.
You need to email the debian pack-man, and see if they can instruct you
There are SO many distros and wine dependencies, that i have lost count.
The best we have right now in the KXs bundled version, i think you should try that

That KX studio distro is Debian ( ubuntu) based.

http://kxstudio.linuxaudio.org/
About KXStudio

NOTE: Parts of this website are currently being rewritten, some links might not work at the moment.

KXStudio is a collection of applications and plugins for professional audio production.
KXStudio provides Debian and Ubuntu compatible repositories and its own Linux Distribution currently based on Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS.
Find a friend or family member with internet, that will download it for you and burn it to a dvd. or usb stick?

Thank you, I've never heard of KX Studio. I'll try that out!

I would prefer a method with LMMS though, so if anybody finds a breakthrough, that would be fantastic!

At the website below, if you scroll down to LMMS, it says "Ubuntu Only". Does this mean it won't work, or did I misunderstand what you said before, and I'm getting it from the wrong place?
