To me, LMMS is the easiest of all music writing programs to just write music in. The only problem is, it is limited in the quality of the virtual instruments. I often write my music in LMMS and then have to manually re-write it in Finale 2009... which is EXTREMELY time consuming since Finale takes much longer to write in than LMMS and is more musically limited (you can't make notes that are impossible to write in standard musical notation). The thing that would solve this is the ability to export MIDI files. Currently, you can only export .wav and .ogg files, but import .mid, .wav, and .ogg, so why can't we just export into .mid files?

I've gotta add my support. IMHO, this and slide notes are the only things that really draw it back from becoming commercial quality. And forgive me if I'm wrong, but since you can import in MIDI files, surely it'd be less difficult to add the exportation feature??

I agree with Exporting midi files is a really useful feature!
i still have some probelms with importing midi though some note bends (slide) sound wrong in lmms.

Have you tried using soundfonts. It takes a while to find a good soundfont but they sound really good. Lmms does a great job if you use it with soundfonts. Exporting midi's is still a good idea.

I would love to see this feature added. It sounds like a lot of other people want this too.

I love Soundfonts, they are a great way to make good sounding songs, but LMMS doesn't have the power of commercially available instrument banks- such as those of Garrian or East-West (and nor do any Soundfonts that I know of/have), and that is the one thing I need.

I have to say, with MIDI export, LMMS would actually open itself up to more of an audience- the people who have those big-bucks programs, but aren't quite sure how to work them, or want an easier way to write music/don't have a MIDI keyboard. LMMS is still easier to write music in than any other program I have seen because it uses the Piano Roll instead of sheet music interfaces (which are harder, unless you have taken a class or two on Music Theory or play piano very well). Folks like me who only know bass cleft well and have to tape note names to piano keys really love programs like LMMS, but we want to not only write big, but sound big... literally.

By slide notes, do you mean Portamento/Glissando? If so, i'm with you.

Midi export would also make it easier (meaning possible) to generate sheet music. Please!

Curious, but why not set up a virtual midi link between lmms and the app you are trying to import the midi file to? This may not be as simple as exporting a midi file, but most of the time is should be faster than reentering the notes.

I think LMMS and musescore should be a little integrated, so we would get score editing too. Also, some kind of open source rewire-thngy would be cool (I don't mean like in jack, I mean e.g. where you can make something in rosegarden, then make all of it go onto a track in lmms (or vice versa), not just audio, the actual programs would be hooked up so a change in one would affect it's track in the host)

No news about the "export to MIDI format" functionality?

This would be really usefull.
