Jam n it - Nuclues - TB303 ?

Questions about producing? Ask them here.

I learned from the internet that The Nuclues used an TB303.
This bass computer wasn't that popular at first, but its legendary now.

Did some one say acid ? ( filters )

Now my actual question. I want to cover this for my hiphop ? mix. ( question mark because this is rap / electronic music history, but I am not 100% sure if, jam on it, is Hip Hop)

I cant hear figure out though the part at 1.19 though. Those fast notes.
Does anybody have a clue, if that's the TB303 too, but more important on how to recreate that sound.

Is the lady on the synth holding one key playing this part, Then it must be some kind of arpeggio ?

not the 303 imo, sound more like a sine with perhaps a tad square, and a preprogrammed pattern of <= 1/16 notes aka sequence or even perhaps a sample

In LMMS you would make a block with the notes, or use a vst with a programmable sequencer (Oatmeal f.i. -but overkill imo)
Thank you, this safes me from downloading a TB303 vst ( already found a few) and trying to create the sound with that.

Will prob still get that vst though, for an acid attempt, and or the bassline of jam on it.
( the bassline on the record though is played by a real bass player, they had forgotten to bring their tb 303 along lol.

I was very surprised that when they made their first album, there was no midi yet...
I have at least the notes of the bassline in the right place. 116 bpm is definitely the right bpm.
LMMS stays in sync for quite a long time.

I needed to use 1/32 and 1/64 to get my played by hand notes on the grid and keeping the funk, and now they are like the original.

For about 2 min at least my bassline is in sync. I will have to find a better sound though.
Right now using for that bassline a nice zynadd preset, but its not fitting for this track.

The bassline is some thing like dook dook dadook.

I tried messing with the velocity (volumes) of the notes, and it sounds best if the dook after the da is a bit less loud. :P
Bring in tha Funk, little tweaks like this really makes a bassline come alive, and not make it sound like its made on a pc.

It gets funny if you realize that you are making some thing less perfect.
I now have a bassline, but I am already regretting choosing this track. :(

Cant find anything help full online, and don't have a clue on what is happening at 0.30, besides the cowbell.

Maybe this instrumental version will help me.

Lets hook up the midi keybaord and see how far I can get.
Although I made good progress, I seem to be horrible stuck at that sound at 1.19.

Ii drives me nuts. If I try anything with 1/16 notes, ( at 117 bpm) and no spaces it seems to be to fast for starters.
If I make the notes twice as long its too slow. :(

I might have to give up.
Wooah! That TB 303 makes some really nice bass sounds. :D
That bass sound in this vid, kind of reminds me of some of the sounds, I make/sometimes accidently stumble upon
when playing around, with Lmms' LB 302. :D

Wooah! That song. I was trying to find that song and the name of the band that made it, for the past 2 months. :D
Classic bass melody, lovely cool melodies and music. Still super love it to this day. :D
And gotta dig, that clippy sounding kick sound too. :D
Now why is it that anytime I hear this track, especially the bass melody, I think of Ninja Turtles. 8-)

Thanks Gps. :D
Yeah that kick is awesome, I think we can do this in lmms with layering the 808 kick with something.

It almost sound to me that there is a bass sound is playing together with the kick.

Or did they bass boost the 808 kick ? I read something about that. Using a bass (guitar? ) amplifier for the 808.

Got another classic for you, from the same era:
Africa Bambatta and the soul sonic force - Looking for he perfect beat.
More Electro Funk, and I think I hear an 808 kick :P

Would like to add allot more classics to my hip hop mix, but allot of the songs have too much scrathing in it.

Also found this one. I would have never guessed the artist nor the song title, but its a track from the pirate radio station era. ( 80 ties)
I was listening to pirate stations because they played music like the three tracks mentioned in this post. The regular radio did not play this.
I think you will like it.

The African bambatta beat is nice.

But the 2nd link, the cybotron track, caught my attention.
The beat in it does sound kinda technoish.
Kinda like the bass and beat, in this old song by an old school singer, named Shannon.
