Just need to rant

Anything that doesn't fit into other topics goes here!
While searching for how to do a funk drum pattern, I stumbled upon a Good Times - Chic cover.

Just wanted to know if I am the only one getting annoyed by this cover because they are almost killing everything that is great about that groove.

The real one even let to one of the biggest rap hits ever, they how ever managed to kill all soul in it.

Should there not be a law against murdering great rifts like this?
(even if that means the end of my cover attempts)

How this should sound:

I should ask Nile Rodgers to make me a bassline.

I say the hip hop the hippet......

Hotel motel ...

Already learned something though. Funk is about leaving the 1 in 1 1 2 3 4 away :) and syncopation.
You don't think that there's a hint of a chance that you're raising the bar a wee bit too high for a cover band made up of young, less experienced, musicians? You need to start somewhere.

;)

OMG, they are worse. Its almost impressive. My ears ouch

I hope they are having fun though. .
Ooh. That song. :o
I might not be a big fan, of 70's/early 80's funky type music, but that song is special. And I always liked it. 8-)

Concerning the youth band:
Awww. They're not that bad. I gotta give them points for trying, and for playing the instruments well. :)
That drummer and guitarist etc. got style and skillz. 8-)

As for their singing (youths), all they need, is a tiny bit of vocal training+practice, to pull off that classic song.
Once they overcome that vocal/singing problem, they're be performing this track well, in no time. :)

Good thing you posted that classic funky song. Now I finally know, that Chic, is the band, that sang that song. 8-)
That song became very famous but prob most because the sugar hill gang got inspired by it.

"We" always thought that the sugar hill gang had sampled good times and the bassline, but that was not that case.
They had a bassplayer play the good times bassline, for rappers delight.

Somebody I should Mention

Nile Rodgers (Bernard Edwards co founder of chic is one of the bass players of chic.)

Nobody murders anything by posting a video of themselves playing a cover of a song. Some try, some keep trying. The good ones usually stick around for longer. I was a witness of an awesome "are you gonna be my girl" cover live. They did because they tried, just like the ones you dislike.

But if you want, you can start petitions on many insignificant things and try to get it all illegal. Might as well live in prison then.
I think you take my topic a bit to serious.

I will never nor want to stop anybody making music. :)

I knew it was THAT video before even clicking... Which raises an interesting question. If you got famous for completely mangling a song in a painful but amusing way, entirely by accident, are you better or worse off than someone who just made a workmanlike cover of the same piece, got his 1000 views, a few kudos on some forum and that's it?
LOL good question :)
