edit > settings = lmms freez (0,4,14)

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.
win xp pro 32

when i use lmms 0,4,14 it freez when i try to enter settings

every other option works just fine and i needed to install lmms 0,4,13 in which i am able to enter settings without a problem

but even so it crashes (not freez) crashes whole lmms when i try to load mid file via project > import

any 1 here know how to fix any of this problem or any work around ?
0.4.14 win 32
i have no problem with either
One issue that could be a reason: Have you defined a default soundfont?
If yes : Is this default soundfont defective?
Test it as a normal preset, and see how it behaves
The 'Settings' issue
Do you use unicode charachters in any filename/ pathname
Lmms cant handle unicode

its no diference if i install it to c:\program files\lmms
or c:\programy\linux mutimedia studio (where i installed it)
but tested both

and do i set that soundfont in settings which i cant enter ?
i just checked and yes its there

2 days ago i set there some sf2 file to play midi files but problem with entering settings was way before that

even more its start from that i could not launch 0,4,14 its only loading splash screen than nothing happens
i need to install 0,4,13 and than on that i can install 0,4,14 and it works with exception of entering settings

so for now lets try that sound font file where should i get it from ?

its not a specific soundfont. you could use any, bit the important thing is that is has to work
Your problem is weird. It does look like some type of 'conflict', and that can be very difficult to solve
But try
Remove absolutely everything!
Dl 0.4.14-rc1
Do not enter anything in the settings
If any entry exists in Settings -remove them
test that
If you can launch lmms
Enter all settings
Make sure to use SDL as sound-device
Test
If it works
Dl 0.4.14
Install that on top of the o.4.14-rc installation
Test it
Good luck.

you missunderstand me or now i dont understand you

which problem you are trying to solve in my case ? not crashing lmms 13 while loading mid files or freez lmms 14 when entering settings ?

about what you wrotne i did all this already before i even come to this forum rc version freez when entering settings like normal version i even used ccleaner to remove lmms stuff from registry

now look how it was when i 1st installed llms i installed version 0,4,14 and when i was launching lmms only splash screen show up and nothing after it so i installed v 13 and puff it works just fine (without that mid file importing which i discovered later)

i even wanted to reinstall windows (using xp pro) to see if its problem with it but i got 2 hdds and i use only 1 at a time while im using this 1 and i feel like i need to reinstall i just install windows on 2nd hdd and than copy all stuff (4 folders onyl cause all my programs are portable music and games are in 2 folders and other 2 is programs and my work stuff) and all that goes to hdd 2 so after reinstall and copy that 4 folders i got everything that was on 1st hdd like before reinstall

but all that stuff have not effect on system cause all things i have are portable so nothig expect java flash codecs and drivers are being installed on my hdds

so i just un plugged 1st hdd and pluged 2nd one and i installed lmms v14 on old windows and still after splash screen nothing happen

what i need to do is to install previous lmms i use 13 actualy and than on that i can install v14 and it launch just fine but i cant enter settings cause then program freez and nothing i can do about it

on other hand on lmms v13 i got problem while importing mid files cause than program just crash

but i can change all settings on v13 and still they will be the same on v14

and how i know that if i cant enter settings ? well i made theme for lmms (not in default theme folder) and i set lmms in settings path to that folder with my theme and when i install v14 on v13 it still have that theme also it reads paths of my projects and samples which are not in default program directory

so im not sure now with what you are trying to help me ?

but that soundfont path sounds for me reasonable cause i believe v13 can crash on loading mid files cause of missing file which could work as instruments for it

if thats what soundfont do cause i dont know what it does

so i just need to know to which file or path or whatever i set soundfont ? and where to get that file ? or maybe i do have it with lmms by default ?

and remember when you reply me i dont know much about lmms im using it from over like 3 weeks so explain it to me like for a baby :)
kind of tried to solve both problems in one go.

If you have removed absolutely everything, and reinstalled without any settings at all, including NO themes or other extras??
- then lmms should just start and ask you to enter settings for paths and default file(s). You should be able to enter these settings, close lmms and restart.
One of these settings would be the default-soundfont. Thas is NOT a specific soundfont. It is recommend to use the socalled 'general-user', but a path to any soundfont would work.
I understand that you already has tried this, and failed?
-afraid you have a conflict.

Just for clarification, that's general-user gs, right? I love that soundfont.

i asked you where i get that sound font ? cause i still dont know what it is and where to get it

so i just googled so tell me if thats the sound font you are talking about ?

http://soundfonts.homemusician.net/guit ... metal.html
How in the world did you google search "general-user" "general user" "general-user soundfont" or "general user soundfont" or "general user sf2" and come up with that??? :?: I'm seriously baffled.

Anyway, I think he's talking about this one: http://www.schristiancollins.com/generaluser.php

btw keep in mind that on v14 mid files loads without problem and on v13 lmms crash for me when i try to load mid files

and im tell that cause both lmms v13 and v14 share all settings so how that sound font could help me anyway ?
