Korg Nanokey2 not working with 3rd party VSTS/recording

I can get my Nanokey2 to register as the midi controller, and even makes sounds when the buttons are pressed, however it simply will not record with 3rd party VSTs (such as DSK Darkness Theory). Oddly enough, the computer keyboard works just fine when recording with these VSTs.
What gives? I've searched everywhere for a solution, but there doesn't seem to be one.
