Midi not recording

Hi - I'm a newby, so I've probably just got something set up wrong

I've plugged my midi keyboard in and connected it via VeSTige. I can hear the notes through my computer when I play them, but they're not recording on the piano roll. I can record notes from my computer keyboard on the piano roll, but not my piano keyboard.

Can anyone think of something obvious for me to try?

Thanks

Try recording with the default organ provided on startup - I have the same issue as you but find I can record with this instrument only (win 32 version vista). All other vst and samples will not record via midi keyboard despite the keyboard triggering the sounds perfectly?! The computer keypad triggers and records fine and input with mouse into piano roll works fine. You may have noticed some other complaints about midi prior to yours that describe the same or similar problem. Make note of the particulars of your bug - mess around a bit - and hopefully it will help someone to resolve it.

Same problem for me - VeSTige instruments + midi events can't be recorder from midi keyboard (also funcs like arpeggio do not work).
All works ok, when using the mouse to trigger the keys, but midi events from midi keyboard are not recorded (you can only hear the instrument play, but it is not further processed by lmms)

LMMS 0.4.15 20130611 pre-release, Piano-Roll not recording.

The same for me.

I'm using LMMS 0.4.15 20130611 pre-release on Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

I have ZynAddSubFX as only instrument in the Song-Editor, no other tracks, no automation.
Bar from ZynAddSubFX, it is the emptiest project possible as far as I can imagine.

In the ZynAddSubFX instrument window "MIDI" I have selected my MIDI keyboard.

Now I can hear myself playing without problem.

Then I go into the Piano-Roll editor and I cannot record from the MIDI keyboard there; it works fine when clicking on the keys in the ZynAddSubFX instrument window. In Piano-Roll neither the record and record-while-playing-back work. VeSTige instruments also behave like this.

TripOsc, I confirm, can be recorded in Piano-Roll using the MIDI keyboard.

This problem also occurs when I got to the Song-Editor, "Tools" Icon and select my MIDI input for the instrument there.

My previous version of LMMS was installed from "lmms-0.4.13-win64", which did not have this particular problem.

I believe this to be a simple bug and hope it can be solved easily.

Thanks and goodbuy, goodbye even!

Hi, LMMS is my favorite linux software, i recently bought a midi k/b and also encountered this bug, i've run a git bisect session and found the culprit:

commit 26625b137f5c6fd9c500d89473fbc58a853ea35d

diff --git a/src/tracks/InstrumentTrack.cpp b/src/tracks/InstrumentTrack.cpp
index e60610c..5dcac3f 100644
--- a/src/tracks/InstrumentTrack.cpp
+++ b/src/tracks/InstrumentTrack.cpp
@@ -226,8 +226,8 @@ void InstrumentTrack::processInEvent( const midiEvent & _me,
// is MIDI based (VST plugin, Sf2Player etc.) and the user did not set
// a dedicated MIDI output channel, directly pass the MIDI event to the
// instrument plugin
- if( _me.isFromMidiPort() && m_instrument->isMidiBased() &&
- midiPort()->realOutputChannel() < 0 )
+ if( _me.isFromMidiPort() && m_instrument->isMidiBased()/* &&
+ midiPort()->realOutputChannel() < 0 */ )
{
m_instrument->handleMidiEvent( _me, _time );
return;

After making the change and recompiling midi started recording again with VST insturments.. yay :D
I've not started a serious LMMS session since, so can't confirm the stabilty after making that change.

If you'd like more info let me know.

~ Steve.

just compiled 4.15 and still have an issue with zynaddsubfx + alsa-raw midi, alsa 1.0.27, linux64 -3.11-rt

in 4.14 it was just hanging lmms and now it's works but it is not writes midi events
for other synths it works, but with zyna i can hear sound can work with knobs, but it just not recording and sound is not blinking on the channel only in the mixer on master cnhannel, but in final sequencer i cannot see it and in midi record sequencer no changes. if i use keyboard or mouse click piano - then i can see sound blinks and it is recording
so i've added another synth channel and recorded midi through another device and then i can post this into zyna channel

i got those changes proposed for cpp

I'm a total newbie when it comes to compiling on windows (and I'm on 8.1). Can anybody walk me through it or send a compiled 32-bit version with the fix?

Thanks so much,
wb

Workaround: record with one of the instruments that are OK with MIDI input and copy (Ctrl-drag) the recorded segment to the other track.
