Difference between Calf-LADSPA vs Calf-Plugins?

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.
OS: Debian Stable (Buster)
LMMS Version: 1.1.3

I noticed that I need Calf-LADSPA to play some of the preinstalled demos, but it also conflicts with Calf-Plugins, I don't remember if I intentionally installed Calf-Plugins or if it was a downloaded as a dependency of a software I've been trying.

Is there a big difference between these two or is it something that for some reason can work together but they have name and/or path conflicts?
I am a bit confused about you're question, but I will get back to that.

First thing to try, assuming you're Debian is 64 bit, download the appimage file.

https://lmms.io/download#linux

After download set rights to executable, and start LMMS by clicking the file.

1.1.3 is a very old version, the download will give you the latest version.

I know this is a bit weird for Linux users, to download software from a site, but for LMMS it's our best option.
Because of the many issues with LMMS, because the package builders of about all distro had issues compiling LMMS right, we now have an appimage file. The fact that the debian package builders gave you 1.1.3, proofs this.

What is an appimage?
https://appimage.org/

So you have a few options, get the the appimage file, or talk to the debian package guys.and tell them to fix it.
Or compile LMMS you're self.
I have done this on openSUSE, compile lmms myself, and can only strongly advice you to use the appimage file.
LMMS is hard to compile, that why there were so many issues with about all distro's.

If you want to use vst, and you probably want to, you also need to install wine.
Getting wine from the official repositories should not be a problem.

Now back to the calf plugins. There are not really two versions, there are older and newer ones, but the newer ones are not supported yet by LMMS.

So try the appimage file, and see if that solves you're problem. :)
Better safe then sorry, so back up any project you don't wanna loose, before you use the appimage file.
