Hi all,
It's a typical newbie asking, is it possible to sequence external synths from LMMS ?

Thank you Eino, but I want to sequence hardware synths from LMMS via midi, not to control LMMS from hardware midi devices.

Is this possible ?

Yes, LMMS supports MIDI out. I used to make a lightshow with my tablet using PD, LMMS and TouchOSC. LMMS doesn't however have audio in so you'll have to record your synth in some other program like audacity if you wanna import that.

While this wiki page is not very comprehensive, it shows the context menus and the midi tab. Follow the midi input steps, only use the output controls instead of input. If the device supports midi in, it will show up in the output list.

Edit: I'm assuming that you have successfully connected your midi devices and just want to know what to do in LMMS. If that is not the case, please tell me!

I want to use my computer only as a main sequencer. My synths will be mixed on an hardware mixer...

I can now play notes on my hardware synths from LMMS via Midi !
It's weird to have to put some virtual synths in LMMS, is it possible to create "empty synth", or a midi track without synth (like automation track, but with the capability to add notes...)
Sorry, it's difficult to explain what I want...

No it's pretty clear actually.
A plain MIDI-out plugin, no synth engine or effects of any kind. Maybe there is a free VST out there somewhere that does that.
