replacing instrument in song editor

hello,
i am brand new to this programme; not sure where to post this.

I have created a song and I now want to change just one element - I want to change one instrument.
Is there an easy way to swap out an instrument in the song editor for one of the presets or samples in the list, and stil keep the melody and its location in the song the exact same?

I have tried to copy/paste the instruments, and to add them to 'active track', but with no success.
any suggestions would be much appreciated.
thanks
Welcome to the forum,

Just find the new instrument in the instrument or preset list and left click and drag it onto the track name in the Song Editor. I do it all the time.

Note, that works for instruments but not samples. For samples you'll need to drag a copy of Audio File Processor over and then load the sample into that.

Good luck - Steve

You have already been told how to exchange an instrument, even though i prefer a third way:
* Open the unwanted instrument, then
* find the desired instrument in the sidebar
* right-click on the desired, and
* chose 'Send to active instrument'

And you can also exchange a sample, without loosing any notes the exact same way!
(reason of why i prefer it :)

A different way to achieve that is to:
Open the AudioFileProcessor (AFP) on the track you like to exchange.
In the mid-section, left-click the folder-icon
chose the file you like to use

Thanks for that musikbear, I hadn't spotted that "Send to active instrument-track" worked for both instruments and samples. I'll try to remember to use that in future.

Thank you!
