windows 7/ different computer glitch

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.
I've been using LMMS on a different computer than I used to for awhile. It's windows 7 pro. Anyways: when I compared some VSTI loops to old ones I finally realized they sounded much worse now. Some of the sounds were a lot different. Same loop/ same VSTI/ different computer and OS. I played them on a different VST host on this computer and they sound as good as the old ones.

I have the latest version of LMMS. I even uninstalled and went back to 1.1. Didn't work. Reinstalled 1.3. Still no dice. So would going to windows 10 be worth a shot? Has anyone else had any conflicts like this with 7? It's just a strange glitch. I'm scratching my head because I love LMMS. :D

Hello. :)
It's possible, that your audio interface, in the Lmms settings menu, has portaudio etc selected.
Normally for windows, SDL is used.

Check in your Lmms settings menu and see if SDL is selected.
If not, change it to SDL, press okay, close Lmms, then restart Lmms afterwards, so that the changes will have effect.

Tell us what happens from there. :)
Thanks for the reply.

It was already on SDL.
Also: I did a DXDIAG and nothing came up wrong. That's about the only other thing I came up with when I searched past threads for issues with 7. My speakers play the sounds fine on another host (which I feel is inferior to LMMS). They also play my old files fine. It's when I play live or create a new wave with LMMS on my newer computer. So frustrating. :(

Okay. Thanks for confirming that.

That is quite interesting.

This might be a stretch, but do you have any wierd anscii type symbols
(anything other than the standard dash symbol) or strange stuff in your Lmms settings file path?
eg. * ...or.. % .. or.. # ..or.. @ etc.
Sometimes, having those, can cause some really ridiculous sound problems. :)
I went to settings then paths and didn't see any foreign looking symbols: just standard slashes and normal places on my c drive.

Okay. That's good. :)

I'm all out of ideas and suggestions for now. :P
Hopefully, someone else comes in and helps, until I figure out something. :D
Whether it resulted in a fix or not I appreciate the effort. Outcomes aren't always under our control. All we can do is try. Thanks regardless. It's no one's fault here. It's just one of those maddening glitches :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :x :x :x :x :x        :/ :/ :/ :/ :/ :/ :( :( :( :( :( :(

seriously doubt that it makes any difference that the bad pc runs win7, unless you have missing components, and since dxtest went ok, then i would say, no

Oki but then it is a HW issue.

What result do you get, if you plug-in a headphone in the troubled pc?
  • *
What is the Mark of that pc?
  • *
Do you connect that PC to the same speakers as the good PC?
Good to have you on the case musikbear. Many thanks. I've narrowed it down further since my last post. This has become an obsession. Not sure if that's good or bad. I'm getting a bit too neurotic here. LOL. Spent A LOT of time trouble shooting and thinking this out.

I can play waves/ mp3/ you tube/ movies on netflix/ old files from lmms recorded from before/ anything I do with VST or anything else in MULAB or Cubase/ and even pre sampled waves on lmms with this computer and speakers. It's a VSTI issue only. When I play the VST with my computer keyboard or create a wave from VSTI on LMMS it sounds strange--like there are no effects, less quality, even a different sound.

I just can't put my finger on why and it's uber annoying. Any help or lead you can think of would be greatly appreciated. This will plague me until I find some kind of answer. I'm addicted to LMMS I guess.

Best regards.
