How to debug. Any preferred methods?

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.
Hi all,

Started using LMMS just a couple of days ago. Have to say I'm very impressed for a free program. Am having great fun too!

I'm having trouble getting a VST to work. I've read the wiki page on known VST's and those to avoid. It isn't on any of those lists.

I'm not asking anyone here to fix it, I'm just curious about how I might go about finding out what the problem is.

I'm running LMMS under Linux Manjaro (i3). I've got Wine installed, plus all the deps I could think that might be relevant.

When trying to load the VST in question, I don't actually get any errors or anything, it just simply doesn't load. It doesn't freeze up LMMS or anything. Waiting ages doesn't work. Restarting doesn't work.

Of course it could perfectly well be that the VST in question would never work, but since at this stage I've zero clue why, can anyone please tell me how and where I'd go about finding out? Log files perhaps? Or start from cmd?

Should be ok, but are you running the App-Image from DL-page too?
If not get:
https://github.com/LMMS/lmms/releases/d ... 4.AppImage
In Linux RC8 Disable'Sync VST plugins to host playback'!!!
Rem. to backup before you reinstall!
Let us know the outcome :)

If you already have this version installed, then we need to test if VSTs is enabled

Get MDA-Piano http://mda.smartelectronix.com/synths.htm
It is very small in size, and you can just copy it to your folder. -Eg NO installation! Further its a quite good piano-instrument, so it is a win win

IF you now have good output from MDA-piano, then its the VST you hav tried, that just dont work, and i would like to get its name, so i can add it to the no-go list :)

Let us know the outcome :)
Oh! You fixed it!

Many thanks :D

It was using the "appImage" that did it. Now all I have to do is work out how to make that the default launcher.

Not sure why this isn't packaged for my distro but hey - much in the world of Linux is mysterious ;P

If it helps anyone, the particularly useful/awesome VSTs I now have working are:

Electro Urban Drums (free version) from Looplords

and

Bass Professor MkII by Sonic Anomaly.

Wow :D
