opening projects

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.
Hi there.

I have had this issue with a couple of projects and have no way of solving it. It is the issue of files not able to be opened. The message reads "this file seems to contain errors and cannot be loaded" I have the latest update installed so i am very confused.

Any help would be appreciated as i worked very hard on this project

That is unfortunate. Are the files of type mmpz or type mmp?
This next is strangely important! Do you run LMMS on a labtop or a stationary-pc?

The file was originally an mmpz file, but it disappeared from my projects list and is now labeled as file type "file". I am using laptop

Ok -it is still a mmpz-file, but it has lost its extension. That is another strange thing, but it has bearings to the next thing you wrote:

I was expecting this!
I now believe i know why some gets file-saving-errors. The fail happens when there is low battery power, and that makes labtops do bad things. All Files that are open are placed in a que, this que will take care of system critical files first, and then userfiles. If the power is low, there may not be enough. Then the labtop does its 'house-keeping-processes' and updates all system-critical files, but not the user-files, and then that results in a damaged file!
If its a mmpz, the file is lost.
That scenario explains why some looses files, and other like myself, does not -And that is for 14 y!
Your best option is to find the backup of your lost project
It will have the name <orrProject-name>.<current-project.ext>.BAK!
It will be saved together with all your regular projects!
