Beginner on LMMS: How did you start practising?

Anything that doesn't fit into other topics goes here!
Hi, Recently I've been learning how to use LMMS and a bit about music theory like scales, modes, chords, time signatures...

At first I was like duhh, everyone makes electronic music with this program, I'm not sure if I'll make near realistic sounding music emulating real instruments (Or better said, organic so I don't offend anyone :P) like guitar, piano, orchestral instruments... Then I found I could use VSTs (Many of them crash often though) but I also found very nice soundfonts and I was like... Wow, this is all I need!! xvideos

So how long have you been using this program and how did you start getting more experienced in making songs in general or in LMMS or any other DAW?

I also wanna hear your projects if you make more organic music mimicking those instruments, I know is not posible to sound as real, but I don't worry about that either, for most people it sound convincing enough (including me lol) just wanna see what someone more experienced can do.

I like your approach to this!
It looks like you are working through the important parts thoroughly and systematically -Good! 👍
I dont like that you often have crashing VST! What LMMS release-version do you use?
Atm 1.2.2 or 1.3-alpha is best choice -And always only from LMMS.io!
You should have next to NO VST crashes!
So to your real question
when to expect high quality productions.
That is very individual
I feel we have to split this in two
1) Abillity to take a MIDI-file and arrage it with new instruments in high quality and create a HIFI-CD- quality MASTER wave-soundfile export
That is a craft. Unless the person happens to be tone-deaf, that craft can be learned by anyone in about 1-2 years
2) Ability to make music
That is an art-form!
Some will be very good at it fast, some will never make anything worth listening to at all..
Of cause there are 'craft' like elements in that part as well, such as knowing scales, and where to use borrowed-notes, advanced harmonics aso, but most important is the creativity
If someone is a wizard but do not manage the craft part (1), it is not a show-stopper, because the amazing crative melody can be arranged and Mixed by a craftsman!
Think Beatles and the immense important work of George Martin!
Often referred to as "The 5. Beatle". Much of Beatles ingenious work, would not be the same without George Martin!
I cant set a time-scale on (2) -Its like : "You got it" or "You dont"
You also ask for examples of music
Mine is on my youTube

But my tutorials are better :p
There are also a LOT of projects you can study on LSP:
https://lmms.io/lsp/?action=browse&category=Projects
Then there are soundcloud, where a lot of LMMS-producers has released music, but there is no 'linklist' for that platform.
Maybe you can filter soundcloud to only show you LMMS music, idk
The Best Of LMMS or BOL are the music that has been favoured by peers, and showcased as best of that year
Some is here: https://soundcloud.com/lmmsio
You will also find contact information, so you can try and contact some artist and get information about their productions.
When I started with LMMS, people asked if I was tone deaf. :P

Never give up never surrender. Musikbear was one of the people fixing this out of scale problem.

After about a month or six later I suddenly started to hear myself, If I was out of tune.

Talked to a lot of people, and one female told me that starting artist, often need some ear training about the in tune part.

I have come a long way, but still need to learn to better mix my own tracks.

This year though I entered BOL , with this track.

I am using LMMS for over 7 years now, and still have a lot to learn.
But as I said before, never give up never surrender.

When I hear some BOL entries, I am still like wtf ? You did this with LMMS? :o

It's funny that you asked that because I tried as a challenge to use standard synths (no preset except the choirs that I tinkered anyway) to emulate an orchestra from scratch and achieved that not so bad after quite a lot of experimentation. I have no musical background whatsoever and never used other instruments than my 2012's PC.

here it is (first half, then, I shifted to electronic rythms since I'm a kid of the 80ies :D )

For the rest, i eventually found that you don't have to be very good in music theory to produce nice stuff , but passion and commitment (sweat) is the key to progress. Michael Jackson was very limited in music theory and hardly could play an instrument and one journalist asked what was his process when creating "first the beats or the harmony or... ?" and he just smiled and said "no, you have to feel it, just feel it" ... and he danced while singing.

I also liked what said David Guetta what was his secret of success and he answered "not releasing the bad songs" ...
