Is LMMS good for a beginner?

Anything that doesn't fit into other topics goes here!
I'm completely new to making music digitally. All of my experience with music is just with playing acoustic instruments and I wanted to try and start making music digitally. I downloaded LMMS and it seems to be a promising DAW for me. I wanna ask people who used LMMS for their opinion for a beginner musician who's looking into just making pop-ish songs.
Hey there qunasfoma!

As far as I'm concerned, LMMS is not the best choice for someone looking to produce pop music and is just starting out. While I must say, it's a really powerful and cool DAW, it's not THAT simple for beginners to get into it, since you don't get many presets and samples coming with LMMS directly. Furthermore, it's mostly made for artists looking to produce electronic music.

While you still can make great pop music in LMMS, it isn't as simple as it might be in other DAWs. I still recommend checking it out – you can still make such beautiful music with it and learn a whole bunch of stuff in there!

LMMS are not more difficult or simpler to use as many other DAWs, or computer-programs in general, by that i mean, every user has to put in some effort and time when they want to learn to use any program. That is also the case of LMMS.
However LMMS is different in respect to support, an influence, because LMMS is made by LMMSs own users!
That mean that any user can get direct influence on the project and features, that is quite unique.

Pop music relies heavily on high-quality vocal processing, polished acoustic sounds (like pianos and guitars), and modern drum kits—areas where LMMS can feel a bit "bare bones" out of the box.

I think LMMS might be good for a beginner in certain subgenre(s) of electronic music.
The built-in sounds and generators seem designed to sound like classic video games, in my opinion.

Personally, I use LMMS to sequence "one-shot" drum WAV samples into complex rhythms that I export as stereo WAV patterns into other DAWs such as REAPER. LMMS is really good at this and it's not a complex or bloated install such as FL Studio.

I still have FL Studio (demo) installed and use that from time to time. I bring that up because LMMS has some nice similar characteristics as FL Studio. So you could start on LMMS and simultaneously FL Studio, and then if you need more features shift gradually to REAPER and still use LMMS as an idea pad and pattern generator. Or, you could transition to FL Studio (costing lots of $$$$$) and gain some features and still have LMMS as a freeware backup.

I was tempted to buy FL Studio, until I realised that I get most of the features that I need and use out of LMMS and Reaper (demo) combined.

In the past I paid for REAPER, and FL Studio but I lost my licenses during the shuffle of a move.
LMMS is still graceful and handy. It's kind of a work of art in it's own right.

Sorry if this didn't really answer your question.
Good luck, either way.

LMMS is great for beginners!

It’s free, lightweight, and has pretty intuitive tools for making beats, melodies, and arranging songs.
