As new to LMMS and maybe also to DAWs in general(?) perhaps my video Rookie-guide can be useful for you. Link in my signature!

First you need to make the recording of the sound you are interested in. We recommend Audacity for that!
After you have recorded and trimmed the sound in Audacity, save it into the folder you have selected as the Sample-folder in your Settings.
In windows that is default C:\Documents \<cc>\lmms\Samples
LMMS will look into that folder when you open Sidebar MySamples
Now you can simply drag the named sample into Song-editor, that will automatically create a player called AudioFileProcessor (AFP) in LMMS.
If the Sample is longer in nature, many prefer to use a Sample-track and not a AFP-player
I have made a video for both AFP and for Sample-track, so give those a spin, and let us know if there is something you do not understand.

hi thank you a lot for your help, is there a format i need to be using? i still cant make the sample actually go into the project
