confusion about recording

Addressing your question i can understand why you are confused. In LMMS 'Recording' means that LMMS is catching your keystrokes and keeping them as midi-events in Piano-roll.
So 'Recording' does not mean that LMMS creates a sound-file in Wave-format, instead it means capturing key-presses, that is also explained in our eBook: https://docs.lmms.io/user-manual.
We recommend that you use fi. Audacity to record the actual sounds, or that you use File|export to make a Wave, mp3 or oggForbis file on your HD.

That is the bridge between LMMS and VST2, and it is not meant for recording.
