Just one of the things that would make music making sick as, would be being able to automate the ZynAddSubFx knobs. Unless it is already done and I don't know how to do it. The ZynAddSubFx Plugin is a really nice clean plugin as compared to the triple oscillator (which is more for synth type stuff).
to automate select instrument from GUI, put notes you want in piano roll, add automation track, press ctrl and click on knob you want, and drag to auto track, it works ;)

It doesn't for ZynAddSubFX as it's not a native instrument...
Just tested it, and for me it works. Put it in tutorials here:

Nope, you can only automate the controls in the host, not the actual instrument itself.

The few knobs in the small instrument window are just convenience knobs that allow controling of a few parameters. That small window is not ZynAddSubFX, it's just a compatibility layer of sorts, that allows using ZynAddSubFX from LMMS. If you click "show gui" you can see the actual instrument (a gray window with wider piano keys and lots more buttons & knobs), and the controls in the actual instrument cannot be automated.
ok I see it doesn't work in GUI. That is a problem. That means you can't automate effects in GUI. :(
What you describe sort of works on the VST plugin version, on Windows.
