How To Save A Sohg & Pick Instruments?

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.
I'm on my first day with a keyrig 49 playing into LMMS.

Going well but I'm a bit puzzled about a couple of things and the answer doesn't seem to be there in front of me (though I suppose it is).

How do I save the song I've made?
How do I play it back with only the presets I want to sound?
I'm not sure when to use the song editor and when to use the piano roll - obviously I'm not really aware of what they're doing.
I add in a preset and play a bit more and I hear that new preset. But I still hear all the old ones, too.

I think I need a good beginner's manual or something - or a chatty little forum where they take beginners by the hand and have patience with all their dumb questions...

p.s. when I save the project the existing song will be saved too? I'm afraid to close it down lest I lose it....

The project IS your song!
You can save in several ways from:
* the File-menu

* Use the button with the diskette-icon, in speed-bar
* press the combo for std-save for your OS

All instruments can be muted Image just click the active diode (green), and it is greyed out, and muted. You also has the option to solo one instrument, but muting is how you omit one or several instruments from your mix.

Ah... one song per project! Okay.

And I'll go back and try again - I was muting presets but it wasn't at all clear to me that they were being muted.

Same for playing/recording from the keyrig - I'd mute different things but the sound made didn't seem to me to be what I wanted.

But a mixture of weird sounds. Maybe I just didn't hear right.

Thanks for the directions to guides/etc. I'll get into them.

:)
