How to work with musical instruments

I am having so much problems understanding how to use LMMS.
In addition, I just got a message saying: "The VST-Plugin could not be loaded for some reason. If it runs with other VST-software under Linux, please contact an LMMS developer". I do not understand this.

Besides this message, here is what I am trying to accomplish:
I want to use a Public Domain Instrumental, and add some other melodies (audio, Not notation) to it, to make a new arrangement.

I found the melody on the Internet and used something called Audio Recorder to record it and another program to change it to a WAV file. I also installed Audacity.
I think I inserted the melody file into LMMS. Now I want to work with it. I also installed WINE on my computer yesterday. Is that the reason I am getting the message?
So, I am having trouble understanding how to work with the melody. I cannot seem to understand how to use instruments to work with. The Piano roll does not sound like a piano, it sounds so electronic. I want to work with musical instruments that sound like musical instruments.
I am capable of learning but I am a slow learner. I am 70 years old, so please be Patient.
Thank you for your time and effort.

Cant remember if i have suggested my rookie-guide -link in signature

In a way, yes!
First thing: Unless you use Linux, you should not install WINE at all, so i take for granted, that you DO use Linux -Right?
In that case:
WINE must be installed before LMMS! on your linux distro!
https://lmms.io/wiki/index.php?title=In ... l_on_Linux

If WINE is installed after LMMS, it wont give you access to VST-plugins at all! -And it is properly because of that, you get that
"The VST-Plugin could not be loaded for some reason
.

-Witch is a stupid popup, with a low level of information!
Here is what I am trying to accomplish:
add melodies (audio, Not notation)
Yes, You must place the recorded wave file in your Samples collection.

Then add a Sample-track
https://lmms.io/wiki/index.php?title=Wo ... th_Samples
and add the recorded wave-file in the Sample-track
Audacity.
That is in fact the only program you need to be able to do absolutely everything in respect to record, manipulate, cut and paste any type of soundfiles
I am having trouble understanding how to work with the melody
.
The Piano roll does not sound like a piano
Oh no- The piano-roll contains the MIDI-notes. It is the instrument in song-editor that determines the output.
I am a slow learner.
Rubbish :) you are doing fine

So lets go through what you need to do right now:
1) Copy anything you already have made -like the recorded wavefile to a secure folder -thats just a backup
2) Un-install LMMS! You have to, because you did not have WINE before you installed LMMS!
- I believe its as simple as deleting the AppImage!
3) Reinstall LMMS AppImage again
Now you should be able to use VST, because you LMMS is installed after WINE

If you run into problems do not hesitate to ask us how to solve them.

I give you a very warm Thank You from Sunny Florida.

OK, I uninstalled LMMS and then installed it again, (because, of WINE).
I have the Audio WAV file on my desktop.
How do I get it into My Samples in LMMS?

Does VST play fine now?

If you go to
Edit| Settings| Path
Image
And there read out the path for Working Directory then you know where that is
Open that in linux
Inside you have a folder named Samples
Copy your wave-file into the folder named Samples. All your own sound-file-samples should be copied to this folder!
Samples and audio-files in this folder can be seen in LMMS' in sidebar mySamples

In your project, add a Sample-track
Image
(the speed-button in song-editor has the same icon as you can see the track-button here has)
Double-click the orange block, that opens a browser window and let you browse to your newly inserted audio-file. After you have selected this file, the sample-track will expand, and get a sound-profile-graphic, just as the one in the picture
Press play, and you should hear the recorded audio, as part of your project. Save the project!
