LMMS makes unpleasant sounds

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.
Hey guys.

So, I just discovered LMMS a week ago and I really love it. I would like to use it really much because it seems to me it's a really good software to produce music.

But I have a problem that annoys me when I try to make music with it. In fact, without fiddling in the options, the PianoRoll does not work correctly for me. I have unpleasant sounds between notes when I try to record a song. Moreover, I cannot play several notes at the same time, because it will make an atrocious noise instead of an actual chord. As if playing two, three, four notes at the same time saturates the sound of my computer.

I don't know why, but I have the same problem on my dual boot Windows/Ubuntu computer (on both OS) and on a Linux Mint notebook. I can't find any solution for my problem, so I want to ask you some help. I really want to have fun with LMMS, but if I can't make music with it, I don't think I can.7

Thanks for giving me help, and sorry for my bad English : I'm French.
this sounds like a backend problem
what device have you chosen?
Linux should work with ALSA, but you may try SDL also. Afaik SDL do work with linux -
But..
Linux is not 'just' linux. there is a multitude of distros and some are fiddled with, some not. That why troubleshooting in linux is hard..
But, check devise (Edit | Settings | 'loudspeaker-icon'
Thanks for your answer.

On Ubuntu, it is written in the "settings" "ALSA" and "default" is written below. And with these settings, it does the disturbing noises. I tried to change to SDL, but it also does the strange noises.

And when I put "SDL" on Windows, it still does the noises.

Here is what the command

Code: Select all

-aplay l
outputs me, if it can help :

Code: Select all

card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: ALC269VC Analog [ALC269VC Analog]
  Sous-périphériques: 1/1
  Sous-périphérique #0: subdevice #0
when these noises occur, what happen in the Wave / CPU Display
Image
does you see red lines drawn inside the display?
If so, that means that you have to high loudness, and the noise comes from clipping.
The solution is to lover the volume.
If indeed thats the reason, more on how to get a balanced sound can be found here:

@DrMeow you should put 'hw:0,0' instead of 'default' under your ALSA config. That way you'll get past PulseAudio and have less artifacts.
