LMMS doesn't play sound correctly

I can't get LMMS to play sound properly. This is what it sounds like:

That was the beginning of the demo: shorties>Surrender Main.mmpz
If you can't get that preview, it sounds like the volume is too high and clipping. I tried turning the volume down and it still played wrong.
I've checked the sound settings and they look correct to me. I don't know what the problem is.

How can I fix this?

But what are they?
You should use SDL if you are on windows

Also if you fail
please post your:
* Name of your Operative System (Windows/ Linux/ Mac) And subtype (Home' 'Mint' '10.13' aso)
* lmms version, and the site where you got it from
* lmms sound device chosen
* hardware specification (ram & soundcard is the most important)

Changing to SDL worked! I had it set to PortAudio before.
