if I have two instances of audio file processor with the same audio file loaded on both, can I merge the two tracks into one to clear up space on screen?
No, there is no merge-feature.
Instead you can move the two tracks so they are next to each other, and then you can cut and paste the individual blocks from one to the other, when you are done, delete one of the tracks.
