Incorrectly Tuned Instrument(s)

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.

Hi, everyone. I think I found a possible bug, or at least something else, related to LMMS' built-in instruments in My Samples. Here is how I found it: First, I downloaded and added GTune to LMMS to see the notes played when I hit them. I then pulled up piano01.ogg to the Song Editor and hit one of the notes (which is C5 in this situation). When I played C5 though, I get D# instead.

I decided to look up information and found this website which lists the frequencies for each piano key. When comparing the hertz frequencies of what C5 plays without any adjustments it is within the range of D#4. This makes me worried that the other instruments in My Samples might be incorrectly tuned as well. Here is the link to where I found the frequencies for a piano: https://www.ece.iastate.edu/~alexs/clas ... ipedia.pdf.

I would appreciate any updates to fixing the tuning of piano01.ogg, as well as the status of the other instruments I am worried about being incorrectly tuned as well.

Yes! Some Samples need to be tuned with the PITCH-dial on the plugin-UI. The truth is that some of the samples are of inferior quality...
In general it is not really possible to use Samples as instruments. LMMS does not adjust the length of a sample if the tuning is changed. Samples will only sound 'reasonable' in 1-2 semitones around a tuned note. Samples are therefor meant to be used as 'one-shots' or as effects
If you actually wanted to use samples as instruments, then you would need to resample in all the semi-tone-values you would use in that song, and then also use a sampler, with distributed keys. LMMS does not natively have that. I have found that the plugin Sitala, can be used -Here is how:

You can move the little white "block" above the keyboard in the instrument window to match the tuning of the sample so that it will be tuned correctly relative to it.

Ah, I see. Thanks for explaining. So, for the actual instruments for making music, does this mean I mainly use the stuff in the Instruments Plugin tab or any VTS I can get my hands on?

Noo All Presets of instruments are in tune, so everything you find in sidebar| My-presets are tuned, and as you say, also all VST2 that you can get, is tuned
Sometimes tuning is messed up because the Main-tuner slider next to Main-volume slider is accidently moved, and ofcause many instrument has both finetuning and coarse-tuning dials, and they may get out of position, but otherwise all of My-presets are in tune
Another thing that can mess up tuning is if the Base-note is out of default position (A4 or chamber-pitch).
All instruments has that feature! Read about that here:

Glad to know. Is there a guitar in My Presets by any chance, or do I need to find a VTS for specific kinds I need to find?

There are one in zynaddsubfx, and several in SF2 GeneralUser (Link in gitBook| recourses) but 'guitar' is many things, if you mean hard-rock, i have a tutorial for one:
