no samples or music on Linux

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.

Some years ago I installed lmms on windows. It worked great. There were many samples and music and it worked straight out with my Alesis Q49 keyboard.
Of late I have been using linux, currently the latest mint install.
All my attempts on linux result in
lmms install with "sudo apt install lmms" works OK but
1) No samples or music
2) I can't get my keyboard to work.

lsusb shows "bus 002 Device 004: ID 13b2:0063 Alesis Q49"

Any help appreciated.
Thanks Jim

Yes, do not use sudo apt.
Go here: https://lmms.io/download#linux
That is our off. Linux-AppImage and the only version you should use on Linux (If you do not build yourself, but thats a completely different story).
Make sure to do the AppImage initiation. It is also explained on same site.

Thanks, tried that.
Download then "chmod +x ~/Downloads/lmms-*.AppImage"

Ran it but still no files that I can see.

Also no sure how to get midi keyboard working.

Sorry I am just a novice!

Thanks Jim.

The sidebar folders are empty?! Is that what you have now?
I dont like it, because that could be an issue caused by Rights in Linux, and rights and permissions in Linux is not anything i know about
All default files created by the AppImage should be inside /home/username
I believe you can get in with $HOME from CLI
Do check that these folders have been created and that you have content inside
Your own files should be in Documents/lmms/

"find Documents"
Shows directories :-

Documents
Documents/lmms
Documents/lmms/presets
Documents/lmms/samples
Documents/lmms/samples/soundfonts
Documents/lmms/samples/gig
Documents/lmms/templates
Documents/lmms/plugins
Documents/lmms/plugins/ladspa
Documents/lmms/plugins/vst
Documents/lmms/projects

But all directories are empty, no files.

Any ideas on getting my midi keyboard recognized?

Thanks Jim

all directories are empty, no files.

The other library is more important, because thats the LMMS factory-files, that should be available from sidebar. What do you have in /home/username/LMMS ?

The connections sequence matters. Try this:
Turn HW-Keyboard OFF & and remove power cable.
Then shut down computer -completely -Pull the plug!
Then
insert midi-conector cable (midi-to-USB-cable)
insert keyboard power-cable and turn keyboard ON
(some lights-diodes should get lid)
THEN!
Insert pc power cable!
Start PC
start LMMS
Look for your Keyboard in menu

There is no
/home/username/LMMS
Only
/home /username/Documents/lmss as show in previous entry.

As for the keyboard, if I can get the sample music etc I will have a better chance of finding it.

Thanks Jim

There is no
/home/username/LMMS

That ought to be the home-directory for LMMS factory-files.
Can you locate lmms.exe? In what folder do you have the executable?

From my home directory
find ./ -name *.exe

returns no files

I run it from
lmms-1.2.2-linux-x86_64.AppImage
in Downloads

Am I missing a step ??

Thanks

idk. I am not using linux. I will see if i can find someone that knows, normally the AppImage just work right out of the box.
