It really comes down to artistic intent and treating Vocaloid as a unique instrument rather than a flawed attempt at realism.
As trancwolve mentioned, Vocaloid relies on classic synthesis and specific algorithms, which gives it that distinct, overtly digital sound. For many producers and listeners, that "unbearable" high-pitched, robotic aesthetic isn't a bug—it's a feature. It established an entire genre of electronic music where the synthetic nature of the voice is celebrated, much like how people use heavy autotune or vocoders as a deliberate stylistic choice.
AI tools like RVC, Suno, or even Synthesizer V AI definitely offer way more realistic results if you want a natural human performance. But they serve a different purpose. If you are looking for hyper-realism, AI is the way to go, but if you want that classic, stylized vocal synth energy that defined a whole subculture, traditional Vocaloids still hold their ground.
