You can try adjusting some sound settings.

Even though the video I posted is targeted towards Windows, you can try enlarging the buffer size as shown in the video. Old computers need a larger buffer to keep the audio from glitching.

The important thing is the sound-devise
Try to use SDL. It is best/ safest on especially windows, but it will also work with linux
You should know your computers specifications. At least find out how much ram you have installed. A linux user will be able to tell you, or you can search for a method on the web.
Also, since you are a new user:

Are you sure about sdl on Linux musicbear ?
I am on Linux and can't select sdl.
Mine is set to alsa. Other options I have are jack, oss, and pulse audio (pulse audio is not recommended because of bad latency, but should work if you're distro is using pulse audio)
If you use pulse audio however you still will be using alsa. Its an extra layer, which is for music production not a good idea.
You can try it though to see if lmms works that way.
After selecting a different sound device you need to restart lmms before it will take effect.

Oooo that is ..odd
I remember a discussion on hub, where someone said that sdl worked for all.
But Guus, if you can help with this guy

and advise him a jack/ALSA setup, it would be great!
