*Sigh* MIDI file won't load... crashes... etcetera.

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.
I'm trying to make a remixed version of a System Of A Down song, B.Y.O.B., in which an instrument or vocal is replaced by a trumpet noise, dubbed a 'Doot'. (You may have heard of the Doot Skeleton, it's a meme.) Anyhow, this shouldn't surprise you, but I'm having trouble.... you guessed it... importing the MIDI file. Seriously, it's suuuper annoying.

I tried using the regular MIDI file and converting it with that Anvil program, whatever it's called, to a MIDI-zero file as well, but with no luck.

Completion Percents at which LMMS hangs:
Regular MIDI: 23%
MIDI0: 66%

I'm using the User GM GS plugin or something, you should know what I mean.
I'm also using Windows 7 Pro, but that probably won't matter.

*UPDATE*

If you ask, I'd kindly email you the MIDI file, so you can repair it or whatever.

This is a known issue. It should be fixed with the next stable release (1.2).

Out of curiosity I waited to see how long it would take to get that MIDI file imported: 9 minutes. :P

And calRo already explained the problem, however -If you would like a LMMS version of that file, one that you can load in a few seconds, i have made one for you:

File was uploaded successfuly on TinyUpload.com server.
You can download it from address: http://s000.tinyupload.com/?file_id=657 ... 9613211393

Besides that i can see that you are new in our forum, so-

Thank you both very, very much!!!
I really appreciate it!
Hm, it appears the MMP won't play certain parts of the audio file unless I replace them with the 'doot' effect. Like for instance, the bass won't play, but when I replace with doot, viola... but doot isn't supposed to replace the entire song, just the vocals!!! Yeah, if I play the default file, then it won't play any of the song at all.

And it's not just not playing in the program, when I open both the WAV and OGG formats, they play no audio for a total of 11 disappointing seconds.

'doot' effect?
What is that?
What you need to do, is replace every instrument with new instruments. The soundFonts could be used, but you will get much better result, if you insert zynAddSubFX, 3oc or Synth1 (those are the must-haves in lmms :P

I would guess that one of the 'instruments' that does not play, is in fact the percussion-track. In general the midi-percussion is rather inferior to anything you can make in lmms, so i always recommend to replace the midi-drum-track, with real Beat&Bass-work.

Takes time and effort, but its worth it.

If you option for only using sound-fonts, you need the 'General-user-sf' you can find a link in our https://lmms.io/wiki/index.php?title=Useful_resources
I AM using the General User SF. As for a Doot, it's a silly trumpet noise that, when replacing certain instruments or vocals of a song, can produce a slightly amusing tune.

As for that beat/bass thing, I'd rather give up than waste my time messing with it, to be honest.

Unless someone wants to teach me, but none of you probably would. It all just seems so d-a-m-n-e-d(Pronounced "Counfounded") complicated.

Directly teach you, i doubt anyone has the time, but you can ask any specific question, and we will always try our best to give you an answer /explanation.

But one thing you need to realize: Making music with any DAW like LMMS, is not a fast and dead simple thing. A DAW take away the need for mastering instruments, but every other aspect of making music, beside that ONLY thing -All Those YOU still need to master to perfection. Noting comes without work!

In respect to 'teaching' Here are 100 lessons in how to use LMMS:

Perhaps I'm missing something but if all you want to do is mess about with a MIDI file and you have Anvil Studio and it will play the thing why not just "doot" it in there ? It's not exactly difficult replacing one GS instrument with a different one in Anvil.

Steve
Ok, I'll try Anvil Studio. It seems more complicated than LMMS, but nonetheless, I'll give it a shot.
