Small green square? What does this do?

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.
Hi guys. It's me again. I have a question. when you open a sample or other etc. (eg. you select a bass drum) and drag it to the Song editor, or Beat +Bassline editor.
Then you click on the name, you get a thingy ( I don't know the correct name  He! He!) .......named Audio File processor. There are piano keys below the AFP Wave Graph, and slightly above it, in the black bar with notes.... C4 C5 etc. there's this small GREEN SQUARE, which you can drag to the left and right.

1) My question is, what does this small green square really do? It seems to alter notes. :o

2)And how do you use it correctly, to control your instrument sample... Bass drum etc. or other, for music? This still eludes me. He! He! :?

Thanx. :D
green square: key-selector or Base note

scrol down to Base note.
And how do you use it correctly
'it' - do you mean the Base-note -just leave it where it is, that is the default tuning in A4

If you mean AudioFileProcessor, then its all here:

Wow! :o Thanks for the info, and the wiki links. So it's called the Base note. Interesting.
A sample is just a sound, and you can't just make it higher or lower it per se. To be able to lower or raise a sample to a certain note, the program has to assume/know what note the sample is on originally.
That's what that base note is, it's what you think the sample's note is when not scaled in pitch.

9/10 you can leave that where it is, sometimes not. It's also fun to automate. :)
Thanks for the info orpheon7. That helped alot. I'm still trying to learn how to Automate though. He! He! :D

Make an automation track. Ctrl-drag any knob or other option into it. Then draw in the automation track.

You have just automated that control. :)
