Latin music on LMMS

Hi all,

I've been using LMMS to do a lot of Latin stuff lately and was wondering if there are any others out there who are doing the same. I also have a question for anyone who is.

So for the beats, I bought some really amazing samples and loops. I've been creating some awesome beats in reggaeton, salsa and merengue styles. I've even been writing my own lyrics, and it's been so cool. It's kind of like having a full band ready to work with you on your projects! Thank you, whoever designed LMMS! :) LOL

But anyway, the down side is the samples are almost all percussion, and Latin music has so much more. I've been having major trouble getting the whole midi thing working, so I'm looking for any good samples for piano, bass, trumpets, trombones, saxophones etc. and that is my question for you: anyone know where to get decent instrument sounds/effects that work in LMMS? I'm not talking about hacky "underground" sites but legit ways of getting these sounds to take my projects to the next level.

Gracias :)
For piano I like this a lot: http://www.yohng.com/software/piano.html
It's a VSTi, not sample, but it's pretty damn amazing.

Can't really recommend more, usually I avoid real instruments.
Hi. So you need to get,
piano, bass, trumpets, trombones, saxophones etc.
for your projects huh?
Well you should check out Beat Production.net. They're supposed to be a legit site.
Here's the link: http://beatproduction.net/ if you want to check out the sites Homepage.

Here's the link for Cymbals, drum and bass: http://beatproduction.net/category/sound-kits/page/13/
Page 15 on the site is where you'll find Orchestral stuff and Hi hats
Type in Akai and they'll send you to the Akai Orchestral Sound Fonts Sound pack! I Highly Recommended "Akai" if you like Classical music, etc. :D
They have lots of Sound packs. So search though the 15 pages, or type it in the box on the right and enjoy.
If you can't find Saxophones etc. I'll post another link for it if I find any.
Sorry if I couldn't help you with the "Midi" thing. :?
Hope this helps. Bye. :D

What midi thing?
You should search for "instrument" + "vsti" or "instrument" + "sf2" on google and download what you think is fine. Virtual instruments usually have high quality sound. http://www.dskmusic.com/ This site have many different good vsti´s.
What midi thing?
Check here orpheon7.....https://sourceforge.net/apps/phpbb/lmms ... 2227#p2227
It's in the troubleshooting section entitled: Midi out of sync :)
Wow, thanks everyone!

To answer the question, I've been having a lot of trouble getting LMMS midi to work correctly (and I posted a question about it in another section of the forum). It's a long and complicated story but I like the ideas suggested by you guys better. :)

Also, this is probably going to sound like a dumb question and may be slightly off-topic (my apologies in advance), but what is a VST (or is is vSTI) plug in? And how do I load it into LMMS if I find one? I ask because it seems that most forums tend to lean more closely to the seasoned veteran audio engineer side of things where everyone knows the terminology and functionality like the back of their hands... and I'm not "in the loop" (cheesy pun intended) when it comes to stuff like that. Even Wikipedia's definitions in this area tend to end up in my clicking more links for more definitions. :))

But anyway, thanks again for the ideas and links! Can't wait to check them out.
You use VeSTige to open virtual instruments. When you download a vsti you open the .dll file with the plugin VeStige in LMMS. Here are a list over sites you can download vsti´s, soundfonts and samples on: http://lmms.sourceforge.net/wiki/index. ... _resources
and I posted a question about it in another section of the forum).

VST is a sort of audio plugin format originally created by and for Cubase (a professional DAW) but it got so popular that it's currently the biggest audio plugin standard (for windows) around.
VSTi are VST-instruments, which means that they can receive MIDI data and generate sounds instead of just manipulating sounds (like effects).

In LMMS, you need an instrument called "VeSTige" which is basically a VST-loader dummy. Drag it to your song and click on it, you'll be able to select a VSTi (usually something.dll) and then use it.
Keep in mind that VSTs and LMMS are currently pretty unstable together and you might get crashes. Save your work a _lot_ when using many VSTs.

PS: There is no such thing as a dumb question. Ask them!
