Hi! I am new to the midi music creation scene and I am having some trouble with getting my keyboard to work in lmms. I am using a SANOXY USB MIDI Cable Converter for the PC to connect my keyboard. I have it plugged in correctly since it is lighted up, however nothing will play in lmms? Do I need to buy a MIDI interface device to get it to work properly? My OS is a windows 10 64 bit btw

I would greatly appreciate it if someone can help me out with this issue ;;;;;

Are you sure it's connected correctly ? The MIDI out from the keyboard connects to the MIDI IN on the USB converter. That SHOULD be all it needs to work.

Are you following the instructions in In https://lmms.io/documentation/Using_MIDI ? MIDI interface is set to WINMM MIDI ? Does LMMS see the keyboard ? I.e. when you try the Quick MIDI Setup the keyboard shows up in MIDI/Input and you can select it ?

Thank you for helping me! Okay so I plugged in the MIDI IN of the USB converter into the keyboard, but for some reason my computer is not reading the keyboard? Just flashing green on the power button. When I plug in the MIDI OUT of the converter into the keyboard, the keyboard is recognized? The LMMS program recognizes that there is something there, but I guess the keyboard isn't being seen. Am I missing something from the LMMS instructions?

Sorry but from that I can't tell if you tried any of the instructions I pointed you to. Bear in mind that I don't have either a Rockband 3 keyboard or that particular MIDI converter so I can only go on what you tell me.

How do you know that the keyboard is recognised when you plug it into the wrong MIDI port ? What are you seeing that makes you think that ?

When you try the Quick Setup i.e. click on the gearwheel and choose MIDI/Input what do you see ? If you choose MIDI/output what do you see then ?

I'm sorry if I'm very confusing, I am pretty new to all this but I will do my best to explain. The rockband keyboard power button keeps flashing and for the settings for LMMS show up as this https://gyazo.com/af43a83a0abf3bbf66a591ebe025dbf5 and for the midi port input/output, this shows up.

I'm not sure about what else needs to be here, and I am really new to LMMS but I think I read the instructions properly. But I am assuming that the keyboard is just not connecting to my PC properly because the power button is flashing continuously, so I don't know if a MIDI Interface device with a MIDI cable would be my solution or not. I just wanted to see if anyone else had a similar issue and if it was alleviated with different cables or if it just didn't work for them at all.

No idea what a flashing light on the keyboard means but in LMMS that all looks perfectly normal to me. If you select that "USB2.0 MIDI" input device I'd expect it to work. That's the name of the converter, it can't show a keyboard name because that information doesn't get through the MIDI converter.

I guess we'll have to hope someone who knows more about your keyboard comes along (my USB MIDI keyboard is just too easy, plug it, it works).

If I understand this right, this is what I would try:

Hey everyone! Thanks for helping, I got this figured out! If anyone wants to try to use their Rockband 3 MIDI Keyboard in LMMS, buy a MIDISport 1X1, download the drivers for your OS, then get a simple MIDI cable. That's how it works!
