3 quick questions about 3osc

Anything that doesn't fit into other topics goes here!
Hi everyone,
I really like 3osc, and there are a few things that aren't clear, and hoping someone here can clarify:

1) is monophonic (one note) playing possible? (I also don't see portamento anywhere)

2) can any of the 3 oscillators' volume be brought to zero without muting the other 2? (must all 3 oscillators always be used?)

3) I see that saving sounds is possible. How do I call them up again?

Much thanks!

brian

No

...but ..each osc has a 'Vol' knob
turn the one you want to cut -down ..?

no option on 3oc for that? What knob option do you refere to - rest mouse over and write tooltip down. then post again

Hi musikbear,

it was when I turned down the volume on one of the oscillators that the entire voice went out. I tried the same by turning down a different oscillator and it did the same thing. Perhaps there's a different way to isolate each oscillator?

Regarding patch saving, I mean the floppy disk image on the main page; when I click on that, it seems I can save the patch. But I can't see how to open it up again.

If you make an original sound using the 3xOsc. or other Lmms plugin, and you save it. To reopen it:

1) Close Lmms, then Restart Lmms. (This refreshes the Lmms Menu options etc.)

2)Go to the Lmms options Menu thingy, located at the Left of the Lmms GUI screen.
(HINT: It's the menu options bar, where you get drum, hihat, snare other music samples and Plugins etc.)
and look for a Presets type folder, which will contain the "saved sound," you made in the Triple Oscillator.

3)Click on it and it will load into Lmms.

Hope that helps. Bye dudes. :D

well that weird, though i do have an explanation :p. ....but -just try this:
open a new empty project
you always have a 30c in all new proj.
open it
play note
listen
now turn osc2 higher up
the sound changes profoundly
turn osc3 up
the sound changes dramatically
thats because osc2 is detuned 1 oct, osc3 2 oct -both lover
so if you cut both osc2 and osc3 you are left with only osc1!

So why did cutting one remove all sound? propl because of the MIX settings!!
You see in default-preset you have MIX MIX
when you start to fiddele with the modualation, the influence of one osc is modulated by another. then cutting one will influence the others -most profound when PM AM is used. Thats a serious complicated topic, and difficult to get around fast :p
So botton line
use mix-mix mod if you want to control each osc individually

saving presets
name them!!!
then make sure you know where you put them and just drag any into an empty preset.

Hi brandystarbrite,
thanks for the tip. In reality, the presets list (it would be nice to see the preset list in the synth GUI rather than in the side bar, imho...) allows me to pull up a preset (including the ones I make and save) by drag-and-drop. If I just click the sound, it gives a soundbite "preview" but it doesn't actually load into 3osc.

Very nice synth! I hope to add it soon in the list on my website here: http://www.amsynth.com

I'll also add some demos. :)

Hi musikbear,
yes, I tried using MIX-MIX and it is indeed possible to change oscillator volumes. However, the sounds in any other mode change when you select MIX. :( My impression is that the MIX function should be independent from the PW, AM, FM and Sync modes. Then MIX would control just the volumes of the oscillators and the sounds would remain as they should. Aisi, of course..

Example: the "play some rock" patch has a rough Osc. 1. Vey nice. But if I select MIX, it isn't the same waveform anymore.

Some of the patches are very rich sounding indeed! I particularly liked "Power Strings" "Jupiter" "Warm Stack" and "Supernova."

I put together a page with some demos here: http://www.amsynth.com/tripleoscillator.html

A very powerful synth!
