libwinpthread-1.dll was not found

Having trouble with LMMS? Ask about it here.
Whenever I open a project that uses vsts, an error message that says "libwinpthread-1.dll was not found" pops up, suggesting i reinstall the program, and then LMMS tells me all the vsts that I used could not be loaded.

Last night, I recieved a warning from windows defender about a trojan threat in a plugin, Genesis Pro, that I quarantined in a "newsmodule.sem". However, upon doing so, I got the aforementioned error messages, even after restoring the quarantined files. (I re scanned with malwarebytes which did not register those files as threats btw)

Do I have to reinstall all my vsts now? If so, will the adjustments I made within them be saved in the project file?

I have already tried reinstalling LMMS to the latest version, but the problem persists.

Thanks.

libwinpthread-1.dll is a core dll in lmms. It is in the Programfiles LMMS folder. The infection has most likely compromised this dll, and it has been removed by defender.
But that situation should have been fixed after you re-installed!
That could indicate that the file now has been listed in as suspicious, and defender wont let you install it!
I think you need to
* clear out your quantitated files
* find information about window-defenders lists of suspicious files, and how to clear that list#
* BACKUP YOUR OWN STUFF##
* Use a reg-db tool to remove everything related to previous LMMS installations
* DL a brand new installation pack, and install
BUT..
# This could destroy files that you do not want destroyed
## If the infection also infected your own stuff, then you will re-infect the pc

You need better protection!
Your issue is not LMMS related, but is caused by not having sufficient protection of your pc. I tried to help anywitch, but In the end, you may be better of re-installing windows
So even after I restored the quarantined files, it will still block them in subsequent re installations?

Under windows defender it listed the threat as part of a VST I have. Maybe I should re install all of my vsts since they were related to the previous version of LMMS that had been compromised?

Thanks for the help
Ok, so I tried reinstalling the vst that was causing issues, and that got rid of the libwinpthread error, but the warning that all vsts couldn't be loaded persists.

Also, I cannot load vsts thru vestige, even mda piano, that I saw was suggested on another forum post.

You might have to whitelist some vst, or indicate that the program can be trusted.

I am most of the time on Linux, and need to find my self yet were to do this on Win 10, but its possible.

Did you install as an admin? I think I read this somewere.

First Install on Windows

As always when installing new programs on Windows, You need to be Administrator, to make a successful installation.
Go to the folder you use as your download-folder, and locate the File named: lmms-1.2.1-winXX.exe -where 'XX' is either '32' or '64' depending on your choice. Double-click or choose run. Point the installation to a partition with at least 2 gb free space. The actual install is much smaller, but you will soon start to download soundfile-collections, and they can be huge, so recommended is 4-5 gb!

The installation does everything that is needed. After you have installed, you should also have a shortcut on the desktop. Double-click, or choose run from the context-menu, and your LMMS should open. After you have installed LMMS, you need to make some important configurations in Setup.

I just tried running lmms as admin and that resolved everything, thanks!
