Those solos are unbelievably good, especially considering they're written on a DAW. This might very well be the most metal song on this platform, structurally and compositionally (?) speaking. Also the amount of drum tracks... holy hell man. Might be a little cluttered, but sounds good, and that's all that matters. Something you could think about is how to fill the "empty" feel on the riff parts. Chiptune guitars do their job well enough, except that they don't really fill the space in the same way a guitar does. I know it is difficult though, because emulating all the techniques is a tedious job. I spent like 2 years at one point in time trying to find a passable sound, and never came up with anything too good. Maybe add a keyboard part for some atmosphere? Just some food for thought. Better drum sounds, even without external samples, are something that are achievable, plentiful even. You could do good by just doing simple manipulations to your drum sounds, like pitch-shifting (octaves work well), stereo echo (with minimal delay to widen the sound), or just opening that drumsynth-folder. It's a lot to go through, but more fitting hi-hats shouldn't be too difficult to come by. Again though, food for thought. Posted by: Jernemiez  on 2017-05-03 20:55:51

The guitar built-ins are extremely canned and "thin", and for lack of skill or patience, I can never tweak the kind of sound I want out of it. Running a SID through Decimator obviously isn't going to give a natural guitar sound, but it at least has the amount of power I'm looking for. Plus I just like making SID do stuff it wasn't designed for. @Jernemiez: Thanks! Synth quality aside, this and the other project I posted recently are the instrumentals to what I originally wrote as vocal songs, which is probably part of the reason it sounds a bit "empty". For the guitars themselves, honestly, my goal is usually to get the best sound I can out of a single SID rather than to get the absolute best tone. You make a good point, though, so I'll see if I can step things up in the future. And yeah, I just grabbed the most readily available built-in drum samples that weren't wildly unfitting and didn't worry about it beyond that. For acoustic drums, there really aren't a lot of choices anyways. I avoid using external samples for music I post here, but with the default samples so heavily biased toward electronic sounds that just don't work for this style, there really aren't a lot of choices, and you can only tweak the sound so much with post-processing.
