Thanks. I have created a MATLAB script which I can share which converts short samples to 4-bit PCM expressions at a selection of 8,4, or 2 kHz. It should also run on a freeware program called Octave, although I haven't tried installing Octave on this computer since I had to reinstall Windows just after installing an old version a couple of years ago. I'd be more than happy for anyone to convert it to C++ or HTML. This sound output (though 4 bit and not 8 bit) reminds me of sampling off the radio with my first sampler, which I had as a teenager (many years ago).
