Everybody has their own style, you do what you like man. Don't listen to anybody, unless you want to be a mainstream artist, which is "Go with the flow" scenario and do what the people want. If you're doing it for the people then you need to try harder, but if you're doing it because you like writing music then you shouldn't worry about people opinions.
