In my humble opinion, for a new music producer it's best to build your song around a chord structure. A basic chord progression that has 4 or even as little as 2 chords repeating thorughout the song would be very helpful for the producer. This is a solid foundation for the song, because it forces you to follow some rules, and rules are super helpful when you don't know what you are doing. A chord structure will force you to have the rest of your instrumentation follow the chords creating a cohesive harmony. Also a chord structure is just a very simple to create element that will add repetition for your song, and make the song easier to follow. listen to some of your favorite artists and analyze how their songs are constructed. Also search for some of the top rated projects on this site and see how they are done.
