This is my most recent and probably my most realistic and best project up to date. I hope you will enjoy listening to its funky beat as much as I did creating it ;)

Comments:

This is good funky music! Don't try too hard to make it sound 'realistic'. Sometimes you can find sounds with zasfx that sound like real instruments, but many of the really good settings sound very synthetic; creativity is everything.

Personally, I like zasfx settings with short attacks and a lot of unison. Reverb always spices up the sound as long as it's not too much. I've read that the attack phase defines 75% of the sound of the synth, so this should be optimized when experimenting, I think.

The drum samples can be improved by applying an amplifier and compression, but too much compression will make it sound '80ies'. The FX-Mixer can be used to apply one effect to several instruments or samples. If this isn't enough for you, then you can use the hydrogen drum samples. Do you know how to get them?

I'm looking forward to your next funky tune! Tell me when you're featured on Soul Train! ;)
Posted by: alf42red on 2011-09-19 23:32:56
Using the FM-Bass preset as a guitar is a good idea. Together with a new ADsynth voice with no sustain and a short decay for the pick it could be a great funk guitar ... Posted by: alf42red on 2011-09-20 00:12:34
Lol soul train :P Thanks a lot bro. I will doubtlessly use your tips for my next projects ;) And I'm interested into new drum samples, I'm getting bored of LMMS defaut ;) please tell me more about it. And yeah, last, I liked the way the bass sounded in high notes, thats why I kept it as a guitar. And weirdly enough, did you actually know the organ sample I used in this project is... a bass too? with few mixing, original sounds can actually be better than what other sounds are supposed to be like :) Posted by: lmmasters on 2011-09-21 02:24:28
Hydrogen drumkits: here on Sourceforge.
The h2drumkit is a gzip file that can be decompressed with 7zip on Windows or tar xzf on Linux. The Ubuntu distribution has a package called "hydrogen-drumkits".
freesound.org also has free drum samples but with the deprecated CC sampling plus licence.
